We have this cute little studio unit with a small kitchenette and a bathroom in the back of our new house, and one of my biggest goals for this month is to get it ready to rent out on Airbnb. I’ve never done anything like this before, but it’s so quiet and pretty back there, we were thinking it would make a great vacation rental and an extra form of income for us, too.
Decorating this space is a dream project for sure, but we’ve got a limited budget, a short amount of time, and a lot of furniture still to buy (oh, and floors, we kinda need those, too). So, for once I’m sharing a mood board I made for myself, and not a design client, to help me put my finger on the feeling I want this cool little spot to have!
My intention is to give travelers their own tropical escape from it all – a serene space to relax in between their big adventures on the Big Island. There is so much to see here, so I have no doubt our guests will want something comfortable, tropical themed (they are on vacation in Hawaii after all!) & well-stocked to unwind in at the end of a long day of exploring.
Thinking back to our adventures coming out here, and all of the Airbnbs we stayed in along the way, we can now show what we’ve learned from all of the experiences we’ve had – both good & not so good. I think it’ll be fun! We still have so much to do to get it ready (like getting new floors installed next weekend!), and I’m sure it will still continue to evolve over time, but if we can make it anything like the mood board above, I think we’ll be doing great! Comfy, cozy & serene. What more could you want?
